This is Leigh from Christopherus Homeschool Resources. I saw the Christopherus sub forum here and thought it would be helpful if I made myself available to answer any general questions you may have about our curriculum materials. Kelly suggested that I do a little introduction and so here it is!
I am the mother of three children with varied educational experiences. My oldest boy benefited greatly from twelve years in public school special education. My other two children attended our local Waldorf school, with my middle daughter graduating eighth grade and my youngest daughter going through sixth and then homeschooling for seventh and eighth grade. Both girls attended a fabulous independent study-based charter high school with my youngest graduating last year.
I've worked closely with the founder and author, Donna Simmons, for the last five years and have been the "face of Christopherus" for the past two years since Donna relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2011. The business is now run out of my own cozy home in rural SW Wisconsin, which often amazes me when I consider our worldwide customer base!
We here at Christopherus believe that family is central to homeschooling. Nurturing your family, balancing needs and prioritizing time spent together (especially unscheduled time just being at home) is the vital ingredient to a successful homelife and successful homeschool. We firmly believe that trying to create a little Waldorf school at home does not work for most families. While our curriculum is a complete curriculum, based on the educational methodology and progression of lessons found in Waldorf schools, our approach also addresses the realities of schooling at home...ie: what it’s like to juggle the laundry, dealing with a sick baby, getting dinner on the table and so on. In this way, it is the perfect fit for many Waldorf homeschooling families.
Again, I will be happy to answer questions or offer clarity in regard to our materials and look forward to chatting with you all.
I live in Canada and the shipping to bring Christopherus here is almost prohibitive. Have you looked into creating a Canadian office to supply curriculum for Canadian children?
